Your Mission Field
I find myself in a constant state of wondering what my calling is, what my purpose is, and what my mission is here on this earth. I see myself comparing my position to others. Looking to the left and the right and wanting to reach destinations others have seemed to get to so easily. Daily questions enter my mind like, “Why am I not ____” and “When will ___.” I find my thoughts moving like a revolving door, constantly filling in the blanks with a new scenario.
On October 14th, 2024, I read a devotional from My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers (highly recommend by the way - shout out MN). This page was titled “The Key to the Missionary’s Work” and it wrapped up with Acts 20:24 which states, “But I consider my life no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.”
Moments like these, where God guides me in the message I need to hear in that exact moment, inspire me to continue running after Jesus. He reminded me with this message that my purpose on this earth is not to pursue my wants and to become who I want to be. My purpose on this earth is to lay down my life and pick up my cross. My purpose is to be a vessel for the Lord and make room for Him to guide me and lead me.
And how beautiful a life it is we get to live. One where we get to serve others out of the abundance of love the Father gives us. One where we no longer need to stress about what tomorrow may bring or how we are going to plan our day because we can surrender all we are at the feet of Jesus. In this surrender, we are granted the ability to live life on mission for Him.
Embrace where you are at now and realize there is a perfect reason you are where you are. You have received a mission field and a ministry through the people God has placed in your path. We can always find excuses to not step into our calling or embrace the mission field God has for us. We must separate the excuses and fear and walk into obedience to the one who calls us “son”, the one who call us “daughter”.
1 Corinthians 7:17, “Let each of you live his life in the situation the Lord assigned when God called him. This is what I command in all the churches.”
1 Corinthians 7:20, “Let each of you remain in the situation in which he was called.”
1 Corinthians 7:24, “Brothers and sisters, each person is to remain with God in the situation in which he was called.”
Honor the place God has you in and use your location as your mission field for this moment. It may not be the final destination, but it is the current destination and God has even bigger plans for it than you can imagine.
2 Timothy 4:5, “But as for you, exercise self-control in everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
"Honor the place God has you in and use your location as your mission field for this moment.". Love this
