2 Samuel 22 – Your Battle is Already Won

Writer: Lauren BrandtLauren Brandt

Stress, struggle, the unknown, the battle ahead. These words may float through your head in the day-to-day. I can certainly tell you they are apparent in mine. What if I told you there was a way to relieve all of that? What if there was a way you could walk every day with less stress than before with one shift in your mind? You’d probably say, “You’re crazy,” and I may agree with you. Despite if I am crazy or not, there is truth behind these words. When we surrender our battle over to the Lord and take up the full armor of God, there is no battle we cannot get through and no stress we cannot endure. God has already won the battle you are facing. The solution and shift you must take in your mind is the act of full surrender of your situation into the hands of the Father.

2 Samuel 22:7, “I called to the Lord in my distress; I called to my God. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help reached His ears.”

In this first verse, David is proclaiming when he called out to God, God heard his requests. This is our first step in surrender.

In order to experience breakthrough from our Savior, we must let Him know our requests and declare our burdens to the Lord.

God wants relationship with us and how can a relationship develop without the crucial step of communication.

I personally long every day for deeper connection with God where I no longer fill myself with doubt from His call. I want to easily discern when and where He calls me and have the confidence to step out in faith through His call. I have seen my growth over this year and that would not have resulted without the pursuit I have held towards a deeper relationship with Jesus. Although I have seen growth in my faith walk, there is still a long road ahead and this reminds me daily of the pursuit in any relationship.

Pursuit never ends, it only grows stronger.

The closer you get to God, the more on fire you will become, the time you want to spend with Him increases, and the easier it will be to discern His voice over your own.

Ephesians 6:10-11, “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil.”

Through Jesus’s death on the cross, we have been granted the ability for the Holy Spirit to reside in us. Through the Holy Spirit, we have access to God’s strength if we surrender and fully depend on Him. It is not our strength, but God’s that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20-21). (Read more about the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-20)

I personally know how tough and stressful life can become and I know how much harder it is when I try to control it all instead of releasing it all to God. Every time I choose to release it over to God, the weight on my shoulders begins to lighten, joy that makes no sense covers me bringing others to question, “How is that girl happy right now?” My response: the Holy Spirit.

As I struggle with my own battles from future careers to my own health, I must remind myself daily of my deliverer, stronghold, shield, refuge, and Savior. The one who hears my prayers because He delights in me. The one who had a plan for me before I was born. The one who gives breath to my lungs daily.

2 Samuel 22:29-30, “Lord, you are my lamp; the Lord illuminates my darkness. With You I can attack a barricade; and with my God I can leap over a wall.”

God is the light unto our feet, illuminating the path that may first appear dark. With our surrender, God rids the darkness and walks with us through the struggle.

With God, we can do all things (Philippians 4:13).

Surrender it all to Him and let Him guide you where He has called you.

1 Chronicles 16:34, “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever.”
